Whitney Port, who gained fame as one of the spoiled rich girls on MTV’s reality series “The Hills,” now reveals she paid a punishing price to maintain her figure. Port, 25, says she limited her diet to 1,000 calories a day — half the recommended amount for women her age.
And, the diet included a limited intake of carbohydrates, including no pasta.
Most nutritionists recommend a well-rounded diet of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy fats and lean sources of protein.
Whitney Port engaged in extreme dieting to maintain her figure.
As for carbohydrates, foods such as baked potatoes, whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, oatmeal, whole grain breads, and bananas boost your “feel-good” serotonin levels without a crash.
They also provide plenty of fiber, so you feel full much longer.
All the while, Port, who is 5’10″ tall, said she knew her diet was unhealthy, but she said she felt she had no choice to keep up with her castmates and the pressure of public life.
“Working in Hollywood, there’s just a constant pressure to look your best,” she told the Australian edition of OK magazine. “For all of us who are on TV, it’s natural to be like, “I have to stare at myself all the time, I want to look the best I can.”‘
She admitted that her health had suffered. “It’s hard to have that balance of wanting to look good but stay healthy,” she said. “It’s push/pull.”
“Eating 1,000 calories a day is as bad as its ever gotten, which isn’t healthy,” said Port, who now weights about 120 pounds.
Following the last season of “The Hills,” this year, Port is trying to shift to fashion design, with her own line, Whitney Eve, while pursuing acting jobs.
She recently moved to New York City and hop-scotches to LA frequently.
Her new series, “The City” centers around Port in New York, working for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg along with New York socialite, Olivia Palermo,.
The show’s second season is focusing on the launch of her fashion line, Whitney Eve.
Her boyfriend of seven months, Ben Nemtin, also lives in New York.
