Seen at Griffin
Much to my delight I discovered this gorgeous creature at the nightclub Griffin on Tuesday night. Griffin is in the highly questionable meatpacking district (that I always call meatmarket district –as a freudian slip, not intentionally) It used to be a questionable area because it was known as the place for trannies and prostitutes. Now it's questionable because it is full of poorly dressed Gossip Girl wannabes and men in midlife crisis. Which is why clubs like Griffin have the occasional stroke of genius to hire people like my friend George Perez to have parties there that will attract a different crowd...and let the others "experience" real NYC.

Seen in Soho
Skinny jeans were taken off the Spring 2011 runways so we'll consider this girl ahead of the trend. Her wide leg trouser-style jeans are simple and sophisticate and we love how she paired them with a cropped tailored jacket.

Sleeping standing up on the subway platform
I took this photo without this girl knowing...I don't normally do that but she was on the far subway platform and she really caught my eye – but then happened to have her eyes closed when I took the shot. I know it's not the most unique style, but I like it.

Fashion Week does denim
I saw 2 people in 1 day wearing grey denim one piece ensembles.
Is this a trend we like?
Yay or nay?

Fashion Week: Day 0
This fashion week I'm doing things a little differently. I'm going to try and have a day by day here on the blog with some streetstyle photos as well, but I'm also going to be posting exclusive content on the JC Report and Women's Mafia with handy links from here! Also be sure to follow me on twitter for even more of my life in the fashion pit!
Today was Day "Zero" and this is a photo of me about to go get my credentials for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wearing my favorite obscenity t-shirt from Article Clothing.
I admit to being one of the many skeptics when it came to MBFW moving from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center. I attended an art show awhile back and the tent was kind of hidden. But they created this amazing facade that looks like it's an actual building out of stone like the surrounding theaters. It's really impressive.
I've got my credentials and will start tomorrow going to the shows at Lincoln Center!
...but will balance out the uptown shows with downtown ones. So after picking up my pass I went downtown to see Peggy Noland's fun and fresh fashion show styled by Ms Fitz with the art crowd...I have a feeling it's going to be a loooooooooong seven days...
Stefania Pia Reception at EVA New York
Last night EVA New York had an opening of a special one-month installation by artist and jewelry designer Stefania Pia. It was naturally full of beautiful people...as seen here...and more photos from me on their blog soon!

Red Hot
I have always been partial towards redheads. I even wanted –briefly– to be a redhead myself, and dyed my already bleached blonde hair. As you might expect I didn't become a redhead...not even a punky/anime/suicidegrrl pink. No, after the initial day my hair turned to a bland sort of salmon color. NOT a good look. Not even if Kate Moss or Tavi did it. (although either of them would start a major trend naturellement.) This girl is gorgeous and I love her oversized denim vest over the lbd. It has a total "borrowed from my boyfriend" vibe. And the necklace? It says awesome. I couldn't agree more.

the black and the white and the red
I lovelovelove her red frames. They're really fun and unexpected. The rest of the outfit, while cute, is typical hipster. BUT the other saving grace is how she is (accidentally?) color coordinated with the tattoo of Flower, the skunk from "the classic that sent many children into therapy at the thought of the death of their mother", Bambi. If you are a sad soul who hasn't seen it I suggest renting or streaming it asap!

Too cool for school
With their pouty poses these girls look like the school Queen Bees. But that's just for the camera. In reality they were nice as could be. So what's working here? Beige lace motorcycle jacket and dress (not together) the pink hued hair and off the shoulder top all look great without looking like they're trying too hard. Because they're so not!

More in Suspense
I said awhile ago I was done showing suspenders. But really, it's like once you notice something you seem them everywhere. So here's a boy looking snappy in his suspenders with red belt and sneakers.

3 for the Road
Sometimes you don't know why you like a particular look. You just do...these guys are just wearing shorts and t-shirts but I love that the one in the center is wearing a Polo/Ralph Lauren shirt and has it buttoned all the way up and the guy on the right has a great amused expression!

Two to Go-Go
These kids seem to have adopted the saggy hiphop jeans (at least hers) with the neon and colorful accents of the Eighties and made them their own. They also seemed to be gay until they started making out for the camera...so is it real or performance? Either way they're having fun which is never a bad thing and
I seriously dig these sneaks!

Smells like teen spirit
There is something about her look that seems like she came straight from Central Casting for a John Hughes film...which would make him the requisite alterna-boy?

Guys looking... all "guy like"
When it comes to Style Defined, mostly I am fond of beautiful androgynous boys or boys with girls. So I wanted to post these fellows who fall squarely into the "guy" category and quite possibly the "straight guy" category because far too many of them don't know how to be casual and stylish. I think these two do a pretty good job: skinny jeans but they don't look anorexic, a little color, some Doc's and a summer blazer are all nice touches. I have a somewhat disconcerting urge to get the bangs out of the eyes of the one on the left –or trim his hair altogether– but otherwise I'm liking their looks.

Over-it-all?
I feel like I need to issue another trend alert: this time for overalls. I am seeing more and more of them. Okay, not every day. But probably once a week. And this is something I haven't seen in years. So...overalls –are they coming back? a good idea? or just a blip on the screen?

Seen at the closing party for Full Bleed.
Last night an insane amount of people showed up for the closing party for the FULL BLEED photo show at Milk Studio, which was celebrating the release of the new book by VICE Books that features New York Skateboard culture. Quite honestly I was a bit skeptical that the photos would hold much interest but I was dead wrong. They were beautifully visceral with a range of styles. These two were at the party and the scruffy guy with gorgeous girl seemed very VICE like to me. (plus the dude has a skateboard...)

Trend alert: Harem pants
I thought Harem pants were just a blip last spring because for the most part I haven't seen them much around the city. And while this is true in New York that is certainly not the case in Madrid where they are everywhere: in all colors and patterns possible. But I never thought I'd see them in denim! You know that a garment has become mainstream when they start making denim versions of it. So between her jeans, the skull on her hat hand her sandals this girl captures to me the more "street" side of Madrid street style. (and yes, I know this blog is about NYC...I'll be back there tomorrow!) But what has been fascinating for me on this brief visit to Madrid is how even with the internet there is a clear difference in sensibility between street style here and in NYC. This is not true of say London, which although it has it's own looks shares a sensibility with New York. I'm guessing it has to do in part with climate because this continues to have the California vibe I picked up on earlier. I'll have to check with friends in SoCal if they agree with this...or my new madrileÑos friends. Did I say that right?!?? (although the N probably isn't in caps? I cut and paste from the comment as I don't know how to add the accent on my keyboard!)

Vacation's all I ever wanted...
These 2 were seen last weekend at the Brooklyn loft party Vacation. It went until 5 am which was not a bad idea if you were able to sleep away the next day. (like I did!) I love the acid wash tie dye treatment on her jacket and the cropped proportions. And these 2 are just adorable in general!
Well I'm leaving for Madrid today where I'll be partying with J&B Whiskey at a special event they're having. So hopefully my next few photos will be of some Madrilenos! Another city that regularly stays up until 5 or 6 am, I've heard. If you have any suggestions where to go, contact me!

Summer in the City
These kids say NYC "right now" and NYC "timeless" at the same time. I don't know how it works like this but it just does.

Happy Gay Pride NEW YORK CITY!!!
Who knew there was a group for Gay NYC bloggers? Gotta support fellow bloggers!
On a sick hot day there was a full on celebration at the parade. You can see all the crazy costumes online. I just wanted to post some kids who are "out" and about!
p.s. a note to all my gurlfriends: YOU are always on this blog so this time I wanted the baby dykes represented! ;)
