Gala Darling rocks pink and black
Gala Darling is a blogger that seems to be a bit controversial: people think she's a blogger's best friend who gives business advice on making a living from a blog or a rich girl living off of a trust fund who pretends to make a living...I neither know nor care (although the fact she took off commenting does give me pause). In any case before I knew much about any of that I took this photo. And anyone who knows me well knows I am almost magnetically drawn to hot pink...even though I never wear it myself! So it's good to have a little out there in the world! And if you have a more informed opinion of Ms. Darling feel free to comment below!

Another pair looking fierce in furs
So it was gloriously warm in NYC today, but it's still March which means there are still going to be nights when the weather dips and you can take advantage to wear your fur –or faux it. Hats and black boots optional!

Why does this make me think of horseback riding?
Maybe the length of the pants...probably the hat...anyways when I look at each piece she's wearing individually I don't know why this works but collectively it works.

Fur gone freaky: in living color & head-to-toe
Fur is EVERYWHERE
...and if you have an issue with fur, check out this video where Richard Renda of TotallyCool.net and kinda the King of all the pit photographers explains how HIS fur is actually an animal rescue...

NYFW tent trend: fur - part 1
Everywhere you looked, both on the runway and off a huge trend was FUR. Fur stoles, capes, coats and hats. Faux or furocious, If there was a way to wear fur someone wore it. Some was more successful than others of course! There was so much fur I'm doing 3 posts devoted solely to fur... what do you think of fur? pro? con? Why is it so prevalent now?

Fashion Week Barbie
There is this whole Ken and Barbie thing going on this fashion week. Will they/won't they get back together...personally I think Barbie is a single girl and Ken is her gay friend. But that's just me. And there are always people you see who look like they're trying to be Barbie –and usually wearing hot pink spandex and lycra! So I was kind of taken with this woman who has the Barbie aesthetic in terms of her face/hair/body but is so...tasteful! I really like her short jacket and the retro black and white shoes. So while Barbie girls are not the norm on here I had to post her!

More furociousness
I love the simplicity of black and white here and how she belted the vest to avoid looking so boxy. Well done!

Red Lips on a Boy
So we're shifting from red pants to red lips. I actually love the red and black accents....and the shine on the bag.

Richie Rich at The King Collective Party at Juliet
Ahh Juliet...former home of the fabulous BonBon Party that is no more... Well the King Collective holiday party was the next best reason to stop by Juliet again. Richie Rich was one of the hosts and is showing in Richie's world when it comes to accessorizing more is more is more is...

Perfectly turned out
They say the Devil's in the details and I don't know about that, but it's the details that definitely caught my eye in this instance. I love how the dress has a mirrored rorshach test print and how she added a bold red necklace that kind of does the same thing with just enough of a turquoise accent to bring out that color in the dress. Then her nails (all of them) match the necklace and the delicate fur jacket complements the dress and her skintone. Finally the shoes and bag don't match just enough to work –if you know what I mean!

Skirts and Tails
Whether they are going to become the norm on the runway it's too soon to tell, but I'm definitely seeing more boys in skirts than I have in the past. This one is rocking a traditional looking tartan with his unlaced black boots fringed bag and fur tail.
And he is also wearing a skirt –but of the minimal black variation– with similar boots and tail. Where did they get the style memo? Particularly since they are from opposite coasts as the one in the black is visiting from LA. While I truthfully don't get the fur tail thing –which I'm seeing everywhere at the moment– I totally applaud boys having fun with fashion and stepping outside of the norm.

lost boy in the big city...
I love the insanity of wearing a tatty fur coat in the middle of a heat wave in Manhattan. And paired with shorts and skinned knees the whole ensemble is a bit "little boy blue". Geoffrey you are too adorable...

Bitches with Cigarette Burns -part 2
I couldn't really post one without the other. So here's Ying Chu in vintage fur and bleach blonde hair. Bleach blonde is my favorite color.

White Trash Style
Can I say that?? They look like they're from a small town with only Walmart open 24 hours and on Sundays...yep...kind of like where I spent 4 years in my own special...purgatory. Or honestly, like a Hollywood version of someone who would live there because if you really went to one of these towns you wouldn't see anyone who really had this kind of style. Which makes me think of the other place they remind me of: which is London. I know, completely different than white trash USA, but some of the girls going out there look as if they, too, are styling themselves after Juliette Lewis in Natural Born Killers or the girls in Drugstore Cowboy or some variation. Call it tacky cool. You think I'm insulting them...not really. But one helpful hint:always say NO to permed hair. (and I learned the hard way!)

I lied
when I posted last night with the title "last fur"...I'm kind of obsessed at the moment. But don't worry, it won't last...anyways, this photo was taken during fashion week by Adomako Amankwah who helped me capture all the different looks in the tents. I'm not convinced by the Doc Martens with the coat but you can tell by the look in her eyes that she believes in it -and thus owns the look. Which to me goes a long way towards having great personal style.

Last fur - for now!
Because it's like spring outside so who wants fur right now anyways? That being said, I think it's safe to say that this is faux fur as it seems to get matted in a muppety kind of way. This could look disasterous but she works the proportion by keeping narrow on the bottom and adding height with those amazing shoes. (he looks good too but we're talking about fur today)

fur or feathers...
I thought this was another fur but on closer inspection it seems it might be made of feathers?...either way he proves that with an eye-catching coat and some shades even boys can get away with spandex leggings...or mostly. Oh and someone (comment below) informed me that this is the blogger Bryan Boy. Thanks for the info!

Furocious
Today was a wonderfully spring like day outside but while I was pouring over photos deciding what to post I realized that like neon and asymmetrical hair, fur is also back in a really big way. And I don't know what I think of it. Do I get on the Anna Wintour bus and say it's fabulous? Or do I join Stella McCartney and say it's never acceptable? I've gone back and forth on the subject over the years. I'd like to say that if you buy it used (like I almost did - a massive white rabbit coat for 80 bucks at the Brooklyn Flea - until my friend pointed out that the coat looked like it had fleas!) or if it's fake it's okay. But if I'm really against it (which I am whenever I think of someone killing my dog for his fur) than is "pretend" or "used" fur really okay? Well, whatever I think about the morality of fur I do believe that in the midst of the recession I'm seeing more fur than ever. Any thoughts?

Man Fur
I'm not a huge fur advocate but it's undeniably big again. I do love his pale peachy pink eyeglass frames and how he's looking somewhat askance at the camera. And the two together are a nice pair.

Brooklyn Kids
Are they really from Brooklyn? Okay, not sure but she does have the requisite round oversized frames and long dark hair with bangs...but we won't hold that against her because she seems rather nice. And I like her zebra print top. And his hat. GREAT hat and you can find similar ones on Canal Street for $5 which is always a good thing.
