Fashion Week Barbie

There is this whole Ken and Barbie thing going on this fashion week. Will they/won't they get back together...personally I think Barbie is a single girl and Ken is her gay friend. But that's just me. And there are always people you see who look like they're trying to be Barbie –and usually wearing hot pink spandex and lycra! So I was kind of taken with this woman who has the Barbie aesthetic in terms of her face/hair/body but is so...tasteful! I really like her short jacket and the retro black and white shoes. So while Barbie girls are not the norm on here I had to post her!

More furociousness

I love the simplicity of black and white here and how she belted the vest to avoid looking so boxy. Well done!

Underwear/Outerwear 2

A little more extreme...a little more literal. Tracy is wearing outerwear/underwear with chains by Brian Stanziale held up by suspenders and tights so perfectly ripped that they're patterened. (don't know if they came that way or if it's a DIY) This photo proves Attitude (with a capital "A") goes a long way in working a look.

Last Stripes

I've been going on a bit about the whole black and white stripe thing. And I promise this is the last photo featuring stripes for awhile. But he's so cute I had to post him!

Jinna in Stripes

Since black and white stripes remain popular it makes sense that Jinna would be rocking them. She's one of the contestants to be the blogger for Sunglass Hut who will announce their winner next week.
With her sweet style and personality (and the fact she lives in NYC) we don't think there could be a better choice!

Seeing Stripes

In a span of 48 hours I shot at least 6 people wearing black and white stripes...a trend that goes in and out and was definitely around last spring seems to be fully in flight right now. I don't know how long it will last but it can be eye catching. Here he just added a jacket to basic black and made everything a little more interesting!

more streetstyle in black & white

bw
I don't know if I gravitate to black and white as a color combination or if it suddenly seems everywhere. I actually think it's more of the latter but regardless I've been posting a bit of it. Her look is simple but chic – perfect to go from work to somewhere out at night. I'm also loving her white blonde hair which she french braided. (though you can't see it here - sorry!)

Seen in black and white.

whiteHoodDress
Okay, full disclosure: I didn't just see this girl on the street in this dress. Rather, this was part of a guerrilla fashion show put on at Lincoln Center by young designer Shavonne Deann. I love this dress and the way it was styled: kept simple with black accents and oversized glasses. This is something I would definitely wear - like this or with leggings and knee high boots. It's versatile enough to double as a tunic to be worn almost year round.

Change of Season

kateMiuMiuBag
Today was the first truly Autumnal day in NYC. The air was crisp and the light was sharp and angular in a way that it never is in the summer. I had mixed feelings from excitement to be able to wear my fall clothes to a tingle of fear in anticipation of the more frigid winter weather post fall....so in the meantime I'm going to try and enjoy it! I love this girl, Kate's whole look but I'm especially coveting her blue/black Miu Miu bag.

Looking good coming and going

jacket2
jacket1
These boys are undeniably attractive so who could blame you if your head swiveled when they walk by? Which is another reason their jackets are so clever – they keep you looking! The jacket on top was designed by the boy wearing it (whose name I sadly don't have - but I shot him backstage at the Malan Breton show). On bottom we have choreographer Jermaine Browne and his very clever jacket of the Queen made of buttons is by a very clever label called Social Suicide.

The long way round

black_white
Hemlines dropped precipitously in the Spring collections which I personally find less than thrilling. Since I'm barely 5'4" on a good day I tend to like skirts a bit shorter. However if I looked this chic in a long skirt I might be persuaded...

Fashion Week: Day 1

Day1DayLook
I realize that there is no way I can cover everything I do in a given day during this period on here. (although today was a slow day and I am still up at 3:15 writing this post!) So I'm going to pick a favorite day and favorite night look. Jessica is my pick for day and because I love you I even found out what she's wearing (it is fashion week after all!) The blouse and shorts are Fremont, the shoes - which I openly covet–are from Barney's and her sunglass are Dolce & Gabbana.
Day1NightLook
The night look is equally fantastic but sadly I didn't get her information!

meandrichardAnd lastly, and admittedly somewhat randomly, I'd like to introduce you to Richard "totally cool" Renda who –if you've ever been to the tents– you may have seen around. I don't know what his official title is but he is the photographer in charge of the pit and I like to think of him as the Ringmaster of the offstage circus...okay it's time to go to bed to get up and do it again!

Fashion Week: Day 0

katya_moorman
This fashion week I'm doing things a little differently. I'm going to try and have a day by day here on the blog with some streetstyle photos as well, but I'm also going to be posting exclusive content on the JC Report and Women's Mafia with handy links from here! Also be sure to follow me on twitter for even more of my life in the fashion pit!

Today was Day "Zero" and this is a photo of me about to go get my credentials for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wearing my favorite obscenity t-shirt from Article Clothing.
I admit to being one of the many skeptics when it came to MBFW moving from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center. I attended an art show awhile back and the tent was kind of hidden. But they created this amazing facade that looks like it's an actual building out of stone like the surrounding theaters. It's really impressive.
I've got my credentials and will start tomorrow going to the shows at Lincoln Center!
...but will balance out the uptown shows with downtown ones. So after picking up my pass I went downtown to see Peggy Noland's fun and fresh fashion show styled by Ms Fitz with the art crowd...I have a feeling it's going to be a loooooooooong seven days...

Stefania Pia Reception at EVA New York

Last night EVA New York had an opening of a special one-month installation by artist and jewelry designer Stefania Pia. It was naturally full of beautiful people...as seen here...and more photos from me on their blog soon!

the black and the white and the red

_DSC0021-Edit-copy
I lovelovelove her red frames. They're really fun and unexpected. The rest of the outfit, while cute, is typical hipster. BUT the other saving grace is how she is (accidentally?) color coordinated with the tattoo of Flower, the skunk from "the classic that sent many children into therapy at the thought of the death of their mother", Bambi. If you are a sad soul who hasn't seen it I suggest renting or streaming it asap!

Seeing Stripes

_DSC0027-Edit
I don't see stripes alot these days but I think this girl looks adorable. I love how the top comes down in 2 points that kind of makes me think of a tuxedo jacket or vest, and how her hair is a messy updo. I'm also eyeing the boots. I have been thinking that these are the sort I need to pick up this week before fashion week starts so I can make it through my days!

Shaved sides part 2

_DSC0019
So I wanted to show one more girl with this type of haircut...and now I'm done. I also like this girl because she's so androgynous...usually it's the boys who rock that look (and the occasional model). The skateboard's a nice (if unintentional) touch!
